Update on the bridge restoration project across Glacier National Park

West Glacier, Montana – A construction project to restore 13 bridges located across Glacier National Park was revealed in a news release made in July by Glacier National Park. Since that time, construction on the bridges spanning Anaconda Creek, Camas Creek, and Dutch Creek that are situated on the Inside North Fork Road has started.

The Inside North Fork Road is maintained to give a more country experience for drivers, and although it is now available to vehicles in certain portions, other parts of the road only allow access to pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles used for emergency purposes. At this time, the portion of the Inside North Fork Road that is closed to vehicle traffic extends from Logging Creek to Rocky Point.

It is expected that the Dutch Creek Bridge will be inaccessible to pedestrians and bicyclists from the 8th to the 10th of August due to the excavation of a deep trench on the side of the bridge. People walking or riding bikes will still be able to get to the areas leading up to the bridge from the north or the south.

The Fish Creek Bridge, which is situated in the campground near the amphitheater loop, will have some minor delays in traffic until it is completely closed to motorized, pedestrian, and bicycle access on September 6, 2022, which is the day after the Fish Creek Campground closes for the year.

Once the Appistoki Creek Bridge is closed to motorized traffic, pedestrians, and bicycles on September 26, 2022, there will be only minor delays.

The summer of 2023 is anticipated to be the time when construction work will begin on the Kinlta, Ford, Akokala, Bowman, Quartz, and Logging Creek bridges.

The North Fork Bridge and the Lee Creek Bridge, both of which are located along Chief Mountain Highway, are also going to be restored as a part of this project. Construction on that project is scheduled to take place in 2022 or 2023. All bridge construction will be completed by November 14, 2022.
