Missoula, MT – The Missoula Police Department recognized three community members with Citizen Commendations after their quick thinking and courageous actions helped protect others during two separate critical incidents.
Police Chief Mike Colyer presented the awards to Malakhi, Fawn and Sydney, praising their willingness to step forward in dangerous and stressful situations where their actions made a significant difference.
Malakhi was honored for assisting an injured woman after hearing what he believed was a gunshot. Rather than dismissing the sound, he searched the area and found an adult woman suffering from a gunshot wound. He immediately began controlling the bleeding and guided responding officers to the victim’s location, helping ensure she received emergency medical treatment as quickly as possible. Officers later had the opportunity to personally thank Malakhi and recognize the impact of his actions.
Fawn and Sydney received Citizen Commendations for their response during a preschool graduation ceremony, where a non-custodial parent allegedly attempted to forcibly remove a child from the event. The two intervened and prevented the child from being taken until law enforcement officers arrived and safely resolved the situation.
The department said the actions of all three recipients demonstrated courage, sound judgment and a commitment to the safety of others. Officials noted that their willingness to act in critical moments helped protect vulnerable individuals and underscored the important role community members can play in supporting public safety.
The Missoula Police Department congratulated the recipients on the recognition and thanked them for their dedication to the well-being of the community, saying their actions serve as an example of how decisive intervention can make a lasting difference.
