Wolf Point man convicted of a November 2020 homicide

Great Falls, Montana – Jesse Laslovich, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana, said in a press release that a 37-year-old man from Wolf Point, Montana, who admitted to shooting and killing another man on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation was sentenced on Tuesday in Great Falls to 16 years in federal prison and five years of supervised release.

According to the evidence presented in court, Doratello “DJ” Juan Fischer murdered the victim on November 27, 2020, by shooting him in the back with a.22-caliber rifle. The victim is only named in the evidence presented in court as “John Doe.” Fischer, his girlfriend, and another person were all drinking alcohol while driving around Wolf Point at that time.

Fischer got out of the vehicle when he and his girlfriend were driving down an alley and asked her to pull over. The victim was standing in front of a house that was located close to the alley.

Fischer used a gun with a caliber of.22 to shoot the victim in the back before getting back into the car he had been in with his girlfriend and driving away. Unfortunately, the firearm was never discovered.

The man was transported to Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point, where he was declared dead after being treated for his injuries. A single gunshot wound to the back was determined to be the cause of death.

On November 24, 2020, police were called to a pub in Wolf Point because a man was pointing a gun at a man named Fischer.

Fischer spoke with another person through social media about the victim aiming the pistol at him the day before he shot the victim. Fischer revealed his intentions to “come to town to go hunting”.

Fischer entered a not guilty plea in April 2021, but pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in November of the same year.

The sentence was handed out by Chief U.S. District Judge Brian Morris.
