Montana – Unemployment rate in Montana continued to decline in May, falling to 3.6%, down from 4% in January and 9.1 percent lower than last year.
In May, the unemployment rate in the United States was 5.8%.
“Montanans who were sidelined during the pandemic are returning to the workforce and getting back to work,” said Gov. Greg Gianforte.
Total employment in Montana increased by 2,221 in May, including payroll, agricultural, and self-employed people. The labor force meanwhile expanded by 1,908 people last month.
In May, payroll jobs dropped by 700, with declines in construction, leisure and hospitality accounting for the majority of the loss.
In May, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased by 0.6 percent.

In Montana, McCone County has the lowest unemployment rate of 1.4%, while Big Horn County has the highest rate of 8.1%.
