Missoula Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Trafficking Methamphetamine and Fentanyl

Missoula, MT – A Missoula man was sentenced on Tuesday to 120 months in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl, U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme announced. In addition to the prison sentence, Andrew David Ambler, 27, will serve five years of supervised release following his release from custody.

Ambler pleaded guilty in November 2024 to possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. Court documents revealed that on May 24, 2024, Ambler was arrested by members of the Montana Regional Violent Crime Task Force on a parole violation connected to suspected drug trafficking and firearm offenses.

Prior to his arrest, Ambler attempted to flee the scene on foot in an effort to reach his vehicle, discarding a backpack and a bag during the attempt. The items were later found to contain a loaded .22 caliber pistol, methamphetamine, and fentanyl. Further investigation led to the discovery of approximately 5,000 fentanyl pills in Ambler’s vehicle. He admitted to authorities that he intended to distribute the pills.

The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, with the investigation led by the FBI’s Montana Regional Violent Crime Task Force. U.S. District Judge Donald W. Molloy presided over the sentencing.
