Missoula Residents Warned About Potential Tree Hazards as Winter Storms Continue

Missoula, MT — As winter weather continues to impact the area, the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office has announced that its administrative office will close early today, Tuesday, February 5th, at 4 p.m. The closure comes in response to ongoing snow and ice conditions that are affecting the region.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that while the administrative office will close, emergency services will remain fully operational. Residents in need of emergency assistance are urged to contact 911.

Drivers are being advised to exercise caution and allow extra time for travel as they prepare for the evening commute. The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office shared several winter driving safety tips to help ensure safe travel in inclement weather. These include cleaning off snow and ice from vehicles, avoiding the use of cruise control, slowing down in poor road conditions, and maintaining a safe distance behind other vehicles.

Additional safety recommendations include ensuring all four tires are in good condition, expecting icy conditions in shaded spots, and refraining from passing snowplows unless absolutely necessary. The hashtag #DontCrowdThePlow was shared as a reminder to keep a safe distance from snowplows working to clear the roads.

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes also announced the early closure of their administrative offices, following the winter weather. In addition, the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office has advised that only emergency travel should be undertaken in the area.

As the winter storm persists, local authorities are urging residents to stay informed about road conditions and to prioritize safety on the roads.
