Missoula Airport Celebrates Record-Breaking Year and Expansion Plans

Missoula, Mont. — The Missoula Montana Airport (MSO) is celebrating a milestone in growth, having reached a record-breaking 1 million passengers in 2024, marking an impressive 11.8% increase from the previous year. The airport’s continued growth highlights its increasing importance as a regional transportation hub.

In addition to the surge in passenger numbers, the airport is gearing up for the next phase of its terminal expansion. The second phase of the project is set to open in late spring, promising several upgrades to enhance the traveler experience. The expansion will include a permanent baggage claim area, rental car offices, additional gates, and new concessions, helping to streamline operations and improve the overall airport experience.

The airport’s growth is also being supported by expanded flight options. Starting in May and June, several airlines will be offering new routes and increased service to key destinations. Among the changes:

  • Alaska Airlines will double its service to Portland, adding a second daily round-trip flight on May 16. The airline will also increase its service to Seattle, adding a fourth daily round-trip flight, and resume Saturday service to San Diego on June 14.
  • Allegiant Airlines will restart its twice-weekly seasonal flights to Orange County, CA, on May 16 and to Oakland, CA, on June 13. The carrier will also double its service to Mesa, AZ, offering four weekly flights this summer, in addition to its continued twice-weekly service to Las Vegas.
  • American Airlines is set to double its service to Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth and will bring back its daily seasonal flight to Los Angeles on June 5. The airline will also add a new morning flight to Chicago, providing enhanced connections to East Coast destinations.
  • Delta Air Lines will resume its second daily flight to Minneapolis on June 8.
  • Frontier Airlines will return on May 30 with twice-weekly service to Denver, offering affordable connections through the airline’s Denver hub.
  • Sun Country Airlines will restart its twice-weekly service to Minneapolis on June 25, providing another low-cost travel option.
  • United Airlines will resume daily service to Chicago on May 22 and San Francisco on May 24, with a fourth daily flight to Denver restarting on June 26.

With these new and expanded routes, passengers will have greater flexibility and options when traveling from Missoula, further solidifying the airport’s role in connecting travelers to destinations across the country.

As the terminal expansion progresses and new services roll out, Missoula Airport continues to evolve, meeting the growing demand and enhancing the travel experience for both locals and visitors.
