Bozeman, Montana – According to information provided by park officials on Wednesday, the number of people that traveled to Yellowstone National Park for the Memorial Day weekend in 2022 was much lower than the totals for the same period in the previous year.
According to a park press release, the total number of vehicles entering the park during the holiday weekend, which began on Friday, May 27 and ended on Monday, May 30, decreased by 34%.
On Friday, May 27, 2022, there were 7,386 car entries, a 22% decrease from the 9,469 entries on May 28, 2021.
On Saturday, May 28, 7,805 vehicle admissions were registered over the whole park, which is a decrease of 31 percent from the previous year’s total of 11,385 entries. The number of vehicles that entered on Sunday was 7,773, which is a decrease of 35% from the 12,040 that entered in 2021.
Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, had the biggest one-day drop from the previous year’s numbers. There were 5,608 vehicle entries through all park gates, a 47 percent decrease from the number of admissions on Memorial Day 2021, when there were 10,522 vehicle entries.
The summer months in Yellowstone National Park are said to be its busiest, with millions of tourists traveling to the park throughout those three months.
