MISSOULA, Mont. — As of January 22, 2025, roadway fatalities in Montana have decreased slightly compared to the same time last year, according to data released by the Montana Highway Patrol.
There have been nine fatalities on Montana roads in 2025, a decrease of one from the ten fatalities recorded by the same date in 2024. However, the number of deaths has remained consistent with the five-year average for this time period, showing no significant change over the longer term.
While the reduction in fatalities is a positive sign, authorities stress the ongoing importance of safe driving practices and continued efforts to reduce traffic-related deaths. The state continues to prioritize awareness campaigns and law enforcement efforts aimed at encouraging safer driving behaviors, particularly in light of Montana’s expansive rural roadways and challenging weather conditions.
Despite the small decline in fatalities this year, law enforcement officials remain vigilant in monitoring and responding to traffic trends, working to ensure that further improvements are made as the year progresses.
