Police officials said the mom, later identified as 26-year-old Maria, was arrested and later charged with endangering the welfare of a child leading to death in connection with the death of her newborn baby. The young mom, who lives with her parents, reportedly killed her child by mistakenIy putting the newborn in 0ven instead of crib. The baby suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Friday, officers responded to the mother’s home and found the newborn baby. The responding officers said the baby suffered severe injuries and was not breathing. Per reports, the responding officers reportedly found the child in a car seat with severe burn injuries. During an interview with investigators, the baby’s mom reportedly said that she accidentally put her in the oven after mistaking it for a crib.
The baby’s grandmother and grandfather told investigators that their daughter called them and told them that they needed to return home immediately. The mother reportedly told authorities that she was putting her newborn baby down for a nap and accidentaIIy placed the child in the oven instead of the crib.
A family friend, who was not identified, told investigators that mental health may have been at play leading to the mom mistakenly placing her baby in the oven. The unidentified friend reportedly said: “Maria had mental issues from what I know and didn’t have the mindset of a adult, she thought like a child.”
