Dead woman discovered in a car close to Old Faithful, rangers from Yellowstone National Park detained a man

Yellowstone National Park, Montana – The National Park Service reports that on Saturday night, May 13, 2023, rangers from Yellowstone National Park reacted to an incident that resulted in the discovery of a dead woman inside a car.

According to a news release from the park, the incident took place on Craig Pass, about three miles south of Old Faithful. When rangers got on the scene, the car had reportedly been driven into a snowbank and a man was standing outside of it.

The rangers found the dead woman inside the car and took the man into custody. He was then taken into custody for narcotics possession as well as “other traffic-related charges,” the press announcement states.

The route between Old Faithful and West Thumb was shut down while the scene was investigated; it reopened on Sunday night, roughly 24 hours later.

According to the press release, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Attorney’s Office, and the Teton County Coroner’s Office are providing assistance to the National Park Service’s Investigative Services Branch and Yellowstone Law Enforcement Division while they conduct their investigation.
