Cooney Reservoir reopened to water skiers and anglers

After firefighters reported strong progress on the Robertson Draw fire south of Red Lodge, the Cooney Reservoir near Boyd has reopened for water skiers and anglers.

In order to allow firefighting planes to scoop up water to extinguish the Robertson Draw, the reservoir was closed to recreation.

According to incident command, firefighters moved to the Buffalo Bill Reservoir in Wyoming as the main supply to extinguish the fire as the 29,596-acre fire had reached 53 percent containment on Tuesday.

According to state officials, although Cooney Reservoir and Cooney State Park are reopened, campfires will still be prohibited at all Fish, Wildlife & Parks properties.
