Sheriff of Carbon County issuing a warning regarding a reportedly active gift card scam

Red Lodge, Montana – The sheriff of Carbon County is alerting the populace on Tuesday to complaints of scammers texting people pretending to be pastors of nearby churches.

According to a Facebook post by the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged con artist is requesting that people purchase gift cards for family members who are hospitalized.

If a caller or number is unknown, people shouldn’t pay money or buy gift cards from them until they are confident the request is legitimate.

Prior to authenticating, don’t reply to calls or texts asking for money.
