Billings, Montana – Latrine risers, which include the pedestal, toilet seat, and lid, have been taken from fishing access sites near Billings and from Lake Elmo State Park six times since the year’s commencement.
The riser was also taken from Lake Elmo State Park in late January; the most recent theft occurred there last week. Since then, all restrooms have been fixed and are once more accessible to the public.
Vandalism and theft against Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks property are crimes that carry fines of up to $1,500 as well as a temporary suspension of hunting and fishing rights. The cost of replacing latrine risers necessitates temporary closure of the facilities to the general public.
Anybody with knowledge regarding the vandalism is urged to contact the local Game Warden Connor Langel at 406-860-7805, phone the FWP violation reporting hotline at 1-800-TIP-MONT, or visit https://myfwp.mt.gov/fwpPub/tipmont to offer details. Up to $1,000 in cash could be offered to you.
