Missoula, MT— Michael Downing, accused of orchestrating an extensive burglary ring targeting homes throughout Flathead County, was arraigned Thursday in Flathead County District Court.

Downing entered a plea of not guilty to felony charges including burglary and tampering with a witness or informant. Authorities link him and his crew to more than 15 burglary incidents across the county.

According to Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino, the stolen property includes vehicles, construction tools, and equipment trailers, with total estimated losses and damages nearing $1 million.

Downing was taken into custody on May 6 following a standoff in which he barricaded himself inside a home near Whitefish.

The case is scheduled for a jury trial beginning October 14.

Sheriff Heino emphasized the impact of the thefts on the local community and vowed continued efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
