Billings, MT — A Billings man has been charged with deliberate homicide following the death of an assault victim, who was initially believed to have overdosed. Jesse Strack, 44, was arrested in April after authorities responded to a medical call in the 1000 block of Wyoming Avenue on April 18, 2025.
At the time of the response, police found the victim, who was unresponsive, and initially suspected a drug overdose. The victim was promptly transported to a local hospital, where medical staff later determined that the person’s injuries were consistent with an assault, prompting an investigation.
On April 24, the Billings Police Department was notified that the victim had died from their injuries. Detectives determined that the assault was a contributing factor to the victim’s death, and as a result, Strack’s charge was amended from attempted deliberate homicide to deliberate homicide.
The victim has not been publicly identified by authorities, although court records revealed the person to be Strack’s wife.
Strack is currently being held at the Yellowstone County Jail on a $500,000 bond while the case proceeds through the legal system.
This development has sent shockwaves through the Billings community as details continue to emerge about the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities continue to investigate, and the case remains under active review by the Yellowstone County Attorney’s Office.
The Billings Police Department, in cooperation with local prosecutors, is working to ensure that justice is served in the wake of this tragic event.
