BELGRADE, MT — A suspect involved in a vehicle theft and subsequent foot pursuit was apprehended Sunday morning after an extensive search by multiple law enforcement agencies.
The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident began around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2025, when a vehicle was stolen from a residence on Baker Street in Belgrade. The vehicle’s owner, who was present at the time, witnessed the theft and immediately gave chase as the suspect fled in the stolen car.
Witnesses reported that the suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Travis Kamps of Belgrade, may have been carrying a rifle during his flight on foot after abandoning the vehicle.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, the Belgrade Police Department, and the Montana Highway Patrol, quickly launched a coordinated search for Kamps in the surrounding area. The search led to the discovery of Kamps on Countryside Lane, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Kamps is now being held at the Gallatin County Detention Center on charges of felony theft. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he is being held without bond as the investigation continues.
This incident highlights the swift response of local law enforcement, who worked together to apprehend the suspect and ensure the safety of the community. Authorities have yet to release further details regarding the investigation or whether additional charges may be forthcoming.
