Missoula Faces Hazardous Conditions as Sub-Zero Temperatures and Ice Grip the Region

Missoula, Mont. — Residents of Missoula are bracing for a challenging morning as sub-zero temperatures and icy conditions continue to impact the region. Snowfall has remained sporadic throughout the Garden City, contributing to hazardous driving conditions on both city streets and highways.

One of the most pressing concerns for drivers today is the accumulation of ice, particularly at stoplights and stop signs. Parking lots, such as the one at the Albertson’s in the Pattee Canyon area, are heavily covered with ice, but crews are on standby to clear the area. Secondary roads and less-traveled areas, including spots off main routes like Russell and Brooks, are also experiencing dangerous ice build-up.

Pedestrians are urged to exercise caution, especially on sidewalks that have become slick in the freezing temperatures. Ice is also prevalent on stairs and walkways around apartment complexes, creating additional risks for residents.

To the north, the Flathead region is seeing similar icy conditions, with reports of thick frost and layers of ice forming on roads. In the Bitterroot Valley, south of Missoula, drivers are contending with especially dangerous patches of pure ice on local roads.

As temperatures continue to dip, local parents are reminded to monitor outdoor activities for children. At the Glacier Ice Rink, outdoor hockey programs are at risk of cancellation if temperatures fall to 0 degrees.

With icy conditions likely to persist through the day, residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions when traveling or navigating outdoor spaces. Local authorities continue to work on clearing roads and walkways to minimize risks for the community.
