Missoula, MT – Firefighters from Missoula are continuing to assist with wildfire suppression efforts in California after working overnight on a new fire in Sierra County.
According to Missoula Firefighters IAFF Local 271, the crew spent the night responding to the newly reported wildfire before returning to the fireline the following day to continue containment efforts.
Their work included mopping up hotspots—extinguishing smouldering areas that could reignite—and patrolling dozer lines, which are cleared strips of land created by bulldozers to slow or stop the spread of fire. These efforts are aimed at strengthening containment and reducing the risk of the wildfire expanding.
The deployment is part of ongoing mutual aid efforts that allow fire departments from across the western United States to support one another during major wildfire incidents. Such partnerships help provide additional personnel and resources to communities facing large or rapidly developing fires.
Missoula Firefighters IAFF Local 271 said the crew remains committed to assisting its California partners as they work to protect lives, property and natural resources. The department added that its firefighters are proud to answer the call whenever and wherever additional support is needed.
