WHITEFISH, MT — A man wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon following a tense standoff with law enforcement in Whitefish.
The incident began around 12 p.m. when officers located the suspect, who was wanted for a federal probation violation, at a residence in the 1300 block of East Second Street. Upon being told to exit the home, the suspect refused, prompting authorities to call in the Northwest Montana Regional SWAT Team to handle the situation.
As a precautionary measure, local traffic was rerouted away from the area, and nearby schools were placed under a “teach and contain” protocol, according to a news release from law enforcement officials.
After several hours of negotiation, the suspect eventually left the home and was arrested without further incident. His identity has not been disclosed at this time.
The standoff prompted significant law enforcement presence, though no injuries were reported during the operation. The man is now facing charges related to the probation violation, and further details about the arrest are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
