Two Dead, Several Injured in Highway 191 Collision

Missoula, MT – A tragic collision on Highway 191 early Tuesday morning has left two people dead and several others injured. According to the Montana Department of Justice, the crash occurred when a southbound GMC pickup truck lost control on icy roads and slid into the northbound lane, where it was struck by a Dodge pickup.

Chase Scheuer, press secretary for Attorney General Austin Knudsen, confirmed in an email to MTN News that the GMC truck’s driver was traveling south when the vehicle lost traction. The truck then slid sideways into the path of an oncoming Dodge pickup, resulting in a head-on collision.

The impact of the crash caused the GMC truck to catch fire before coming to a stop in a field to the east of Highway 191. Sadly, both the driver of the GMC truck and one of the passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Another passenger from the GMC vehicle, along with the driver of the Dodge pickup, were taken to the hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released any information regarding their current conditions.

The crash remains under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the accident. The icy road conditions that contributed to the crash highlight the ongoing dangers of winter driving, particularly in areas prone to slippery surfaces.

As investigations continue, the Montana Department of Justice has urged drivers to exercise caution, especially as winter weather persists in the region.
