Montana Department of Transportation Launches Pavement Preservation and Safety Improvement Project on U.S. Highway 93 Near Darby

MISSOULA, MT — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) has announced the start of a pavement preservation and safety improvement project along U.S. Highway 93 near Darby. The project, which spans approximately 13 miles between Rye Creek Bridge and Camas Creek Loop, is expected to enhance roadway safety and extend the life of the pavement while improving the overall driving experience for motorists.

Construction is set to begin this spring, with work taking place on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. During these hours, drivers can expect single-lane closures and reduced speeds in the work zone. MDT officials stress that while the project will cause some temporary inconveniences, the long-term benefits will significantly improve the condition of the highway.

In addition to pavement preservation, the project is also designed to address various safety concerns along this stretch of road. MDT aims to improve visibility, reduce potential hazards, and ultimately create a safer driving environment for the thousands of vehicles that travel the route each day.

The department has scheduled a public open house for April 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Darby Community Club House. The event will provide an opportunity for local residents to learn more about the project, ask questions, and share any concerns with MDT representatives.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, with final improvements aimed at significantly enhancing the roadway’s safety and longevity.

For additional information, individuals can contact the project hotline at 406-207-4484 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. MDT is also offering text updates, and interested parties can sign up by texting “DARBYNORTHSOUTH” to 41411.
