Missoula, MT – A Missoula man has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for possessing a stolen firearm while being a prohibited person, according to U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich. Caleb Gerard Diamond, 24, was sentenced on Wednesday, with the term followed by three years of supervised release.
Diamond pleaded guilty in December 2023 to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, a charge stemming from an incident in May 2023. During the arrest, Diamond was found with a loaded .45-caliber handgun and methamphetamine while on felony probation for two separate crimes. The handgun had been stolen the previous October from a vehicle parked near where Diamond was apprehended. Authorities also revealed that 12 days prior to his arrest, Diamond had stolen ammunition from a local business.
Diamond’s arrest followed an unrelated incident in which he was accused of exposing himself while watching two women leave a movie theater. Upon questioning about firearms in his residence, Diamond initially claimed he was unaware of any firearms but later admitted to recently purchasing a shotgun, which he had given to a roommate.
U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen presided over the sentencing. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Karla E. Painter, with the investigation carried out by the Missoula Police Department, Montana Probation and Parole, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Diamond’s sentencing highlights the federal government’s ongoing efforts to hold individuals accountable for illegal firearm possession, particularly those who violate probation and engage in criminal activities.
