Missoula Downtown Sees Strong Growth in 2024, With Significant Investments and New Business Openings

Missoula, Mont. – The Downtown Missoula Partnership is celebrating a highly successful year in 2024, reporting significant business growth and investments that have contributed to a thriving downtown area.

Commercial investments for the year topped $7 million, with notable contributions coming from four key projects at Providence St. Patrick Hospital, which alone accounted for over $4.8 million. The hospital’s development is part of a broader trend of expanding infrastructure and services in the area.

In addition to the commercial sector, downtown Missoula saw the opening of 26 new businesses. Meanwhile, 19 existing businesses either expanded or relocated to larger spaces, further adding to the vibrancy of the local economy. These movements reflect a growing confidence in Missoula as a place to invest and do business.

Residential investment also saw a strong year, with $7 million directed toward housing developments. As a result, 21 new housing units were added to the downtown area in 2024, addressing the increasing demand for urban living in the heart of Missoula.

“In general, it’s been a pretty active year,” said Linda McCarthy, executive director of the Downtown Missoula Partnership. “Our business development director, Christine Littig, has done tremendous work helping businesses grow, expand, and explore new opportunities.”

The growth isn’t expected to slow down anytime soon. Several businesses are already planning expansions or relocations for 2025, indicating that downtown Missoula remains a dynamic and appealing location for entrepreneurs and developers alike.

As the city continues to experience this upward trajectory, the Downtown Missoula Partnership remains focused on fostering an environment where both new and established businesses can thrive. With continued investments and community engagement, downtown Missoula is well on its way to sustaining this positive momentum well into the new year.
