Missoula, MT – Authorities in Missoula are investigating the death of an adult man who was found inside a residence following a reported structure fire early Tuesday morning.
According to the City of Missoula Police Department, officers and firefighters responded to a report of a residential fire in the 2300 block of Ernest Avenue shortly after 8:30 a.m. Missoula Fire Department crews worked to extinguish the fire at the scene.
During the response, an adult male was discovered deceased inside the residence. Police said the man’s identity has not been released, pending notification of family members.
Investigators have indicated that preliminary information suggests the fire itself is not believed to be the cause of the man’s death. Missoula Fire Department is leading the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire, while the Missoula Police Department is separately investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and will continue until an autopsy is completed. At this stage, officials have not released details about how the man died, and no cause of death has been confirmed.
Police emphasized that additional information will be shared when it becomes available and when it is appropriate to do so. Officials also thanked the community for its patience, noting that information was withheld initially to allow time for proper notifications to the man’s family and loved ones.
