Missoula, MT – A Flathead Valley man is in custody following a tense standoff with law enforcement authorities late Friday night in Evergreen. The incident began around 9:42 p.m. when Flathead County sheriff deputies were dispatched to 569 Swan Mountain Village Drive after a caller reported hearing yelling and seeing a man outside wielding a pistol, possibly aimed at someone.
Upon arrival, deputies heard the suspect shouting obscenities and retreating into the residence. Officers from the Kalispell Police Department joined the effort, setting up a perimeter around the home in an attempt to coax the suspect into surrendering peacefully.
Despite several attempts to communicate with the man, he intermittently exited the residence but refused to comply with police orders. At approximately 10:30 p.m., the suspect emerged once more, yelled at officers, and began firing at law enforcement personnel. In response, deputies and officers returned fire, prompting the suspect to retreat to the garage.
The Northwest Montana Regional SWAT team was called to the scene and worked to make contact with the suspect, but their initial efforts were unsuccessful. Officers deployed tear gas in an attempt to force the man out, but it had no effect. As the situation escalated, SWAT teams breached the garage and sent in a police dog, which successfully subdued the suspect, allowing officers to take him into custody.
The man was arrested and transported for further processing. The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, alongside the Montana Department of Criminal Investigation, is currently conducting an ongoing investigation into the events surrounding the standoff.
No officers were reported injured during the incident, and further details will be released as the investigation continues.
