Kalispell, Montana – Due to snowfall and the start of the snowmobile season on Thursday, the Flathead Avalanche Center has issued a special avalanche bulletin.
The Whitefish, Apgar, Swan, and Flathead ranges, as well as the southern region of Glacier National Park, may experience dangerous avalanche conditions on slopes above 5,000 feet.
People who intend to engage in recreational activities should be sure to check the weather, prepare in advance for any outings, and have a communication strategy in place.
Furthermore, avoid traveling on or below slopes that are steeper than around 30 degrees. Clear indications of danger include shooting cracks, whumping noises, and natural avalanches.
While in the bush, recreationists should be sure to have safety and survival supplies, as well as a transceiver, a shovel, and a probe.
