BUTTE, Mont. — Fire crews are working tirelessly to contain a large structure fire in the Walkerville area, just north of Butte. The blaze broke out around 5:30 p.m. Monday on Daly Street, with multiple fire departments responding to the scene.
A thick plume of smoke could be seen from miles away, signaling the severity of the fire. NBC Montana’s reporter on the scene noted that it appeared the roof of an adjacent building caught fire, prompting firefighters to direct water onto both structures to prevent further damage.
According to witnesses, there is speculation that the fire may have been intentionally set, though authorities have yet to confirm that information. Crews from several nearby departments are on the ground, working in unison to bring the fire under control.
At this time, there have been no reports of injuries, and it remains unclear whether any evacuations are in place. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Firefighters continue to battle the blaze as they work to prevent it from spreading further in the densely built area. More information will be released as the situation develops.
