RICHLAND COUNTY, MT — A woman died after her car collided with a farm tractor Saturday afternoon, April 19, 2025, on Highway 16, about four miles south of Sidney.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m. when a 33-year-old woman from Williston, North Dakota, was driving northbound in a Honda Civic. According to the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP), the Civic collided with a Case tractor also traveling north.
The woman sustained severe injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital in Billings, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Her identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
A 2-year-old child who was also in the Honda Civic was uninjured in the collision. The driver of the tractor, a 63-year-old man from Sidney, was not injured in the crash. All three individuals involved were reported to have been wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
The MHP reports that speed was a contributing factor in the crash. Investigators have confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not involved.
This incident was part of a particularly deadly day across Montana, as four other people lost their lives in three separate crashes on the same day.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, urging drivers to remain cautious and aware of their speed, especially in areas where farm equipment may be sharing the roadway.
As the community grapples with this tragic loss, the Montana Highway Patrol reminds motorists of the importance of driving at safe speeds and staying alert, particularly in rural areas where unexpected hazards, such as farm equipment, may be encountered.
