Emergency Closure in Blankenship Bridge Area Due to Rising Water Levels

COLUMBIA FALLS, MT — Officials from the Flathead National Forest have implemented an emergency closure in the Blankenship Bridge area following a rise in water levels on the Flathead River. The increased runoff, combined with recent rainfall and forecasted storms, has submerged the access road to the Blankenship Southwest gravel bar, prompting the closure for safety reasons.

The closure, which applies to all camping and motorized vehicle use in the area, is a precautionary measure to protect public safety during the ongoing high water conditions. Forest officials stated that the closure will remain in effect until water levels recede, and access to the area can be safely restored.

In addition to the closure, the Hungry Horse-Glacier View Ranger District office is available for any questions or further information regarding the status of the closure. They can be reached at 406-387-3800.

A map detailing the affected area is also available for the public to view, providing clear guidance on which zones are currently restricted.

This emergency closure serves as a reminder of the dynamic conditions in mountainous and riverine areas, where water levels can fluctuate rapidly due to weather patterns. Visitors are urged to stay informed and avoid restricted zones until conditions improve.
