Authorities investigate death following residential fire on Ernest Avenue

Missoula, MT – Missoula police and fire officials are jointly investigating a residential structure fire that occurred early Tuesday morning in the 2300 block of Ernest Avenue, an incident that also led to the discovery of a deceased man inside the home.

According to the Missoula Police Department, officers and Missoula Fire Department crews responded to the report shortly after 8:30 a.m. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, and the scene was secured for further investigation.

During the response, an adult male was found deceased inside the residence. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, while the Missoula Fire Department is leading the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire.

Preliminary information indicates the fire is not believed to be the cause of death. Officials say the investigation remains ongoing and is pending the completion of an autopsy. At this time, the cause of death has not been determined.
