People volunteer with the yearly Guerrilla Turkey Drive

Missoula, Montana – Western Montanans are stepping up big time as the 28th annual Guerrilla Turkey Drive came to an end, despite a purported scarcity of turkeys.

The first delivery of donated turkeys from the yearly drive co-sponsored by Townsquare Media was picked up by Haven House in Hamilton on Friday afternoon.

However, the outlook for that first load—as well as all the others—looked gloomy early on Friday as high turkey costs, retailer restrictions on bird sales, and the overall effects of the recession took their toll.

But by late afternoon, the sum had begun to rise into a “safe” area as a result of the efforts of numerous people and neighborhood businesses.

We are grateful to everyone who donated to feed the hungry through food banks and pantries in cities including Darby, Missoula, and Superior.
